Moderation is key. Too much of anything can be hazardous, this is true of even water and air. You will likely find it impossible to cut out your favorite foods for the rest of your life, so just try to cut back on the amounts you eat.

Drink a glass of water before every meal. This is very important for proper hydration, but also has the effect of somewhat filling your stomach so that you will feel full faster. Studies have shown that people who use this method will lose weight somewhat quickly. The real trick is to keep doing this once you have reached a healthy weight for yourself.

Do not eat right before bed. While eating some large meals may make you want to take a nap, it is not advisable to eat a large meal late in the evening before going to bed. Your body will not be doing any physical activity, so a much higher percentage of the meal will be converted into fat cells.

Take at least a short walk every morning or afternoon/evening. Since so many of us stay in one place throughout the day as work requires, even a short walk can go a long way towards burning calories. Try to maintain a brisk pace, and move your arms while you walk. Some people even carry weights or wear heavy anklets to help. Start small at first, and slowly increase your distance as time permits.

Cut back on your carbohydrate intake. This is the focus of a great many diets out there, but you might not realize just how many of the foods you eat are very rich in carbs. They are necessary for survival, and long distance runners or athletes will “carb up” before a game or event. This is fine as long as you are going to use the carbohydrate as intended, which is an energy source. Any unused carbs will be converted to fat.

There are many ways you can try and lose weight, but it just simply cannot be stressed enough that keeping active is very important. Never try to completely refrain from eating as this can be very dangerous. Avoid fast foods as much as possible, and try not to partake in meals where it is too easy to have more. Pizza is a guilty culprit for many people, the high fat and lightweight food is just far too easy for you to grab another slice. Make gradual changes in your lifestyle, and you will have a much easier time keeping the weight off.
