10 Smart Ways to Detox Your Body

We all know that detoxing our bodies is vitally important for optimal health and longevity, but we don’t always know what to do for detoxing or how to do it effectively and affordably.  So let’s discuss ten smart ways to detox your body!

1 – Create Good Consumption Habits – Many people think of a spa or some kind of treatment when they think of detoxing, but that is only half of it.  The other half is weaning out the habits of consuming foods and drinks that create toxicity.  Junk food and alcohol are great examples. Don’t start a detoxing program until you are ready to give them both up.  The body doesn’t get toxic by consuming raw foods.  Poor habits for consumption cause toxicity.  You don’t have to spend a fortune on all organic food, but do eat raw food as much as possible.

2 – Eat Real Foods – Eliminate junk food and eat your meals from the grocery store, buying primarily from the outside perimeter where raw foods are refrigerated and misted with water.  Eating real foods means eating live foods, and live foods nourish and support the body both in staying healthy and also supporting the body in detoxifying itself.

3 –      Juice It Up – Juicing is highly effective and very safe for the body.  Juicing celery, carrots, veggies and fruits will all be very healthy for the body and encourage detoxification. A word of caution, however.  If you plan on only juicing and not eating via chewing any other food, make sure you consult with a dietitian first and devise a program for weaning down your diet before resorting to juicing alone.  But simply adding daily juicing to your existing healthy diet will be great for detoxing.

4 – No Sugar, Alcohol, Caffeine, Gluten – Sugar hurts the body and the skin, and makes you age faster. Alcohol dehydrates you and taxes your liver. Your liver plays a crucial role in detoxing your body, so you want to help it do its job by not impeding it with alcohol.  Giving up caffeine will help your body to use its water reserves more efficiently.  Gluten is in most bread, makes you retain weight and water and isn’t healthy in general. Gluten slows the detoxing process.  Giving up sugar, alcohol, caffeine and gluten during your detoxing program will allow the body to purify itself more quickly.

5 – Drink 3x Water – Take your body weight and divide by two.  That is how many ounces of water you should drink daily.  Yes, you will urinate a lot, but water will detoxify you the most quickly and help your other efforts.  Although color of urine is determined by a number of complex factors, in general, the more your urine turns clear (as opposed to yellow), the more you are detoxifying.

6 – Heat Up Your Body – Exercising regularly dislodges acidic deposits in your body, raises the heart rate, moves out old toxins and helps nutrients get where they need to go.  Exercising 3-5 times a week for as little as 20-30 minutes (and drinking as much water as your body wants) will make a huge difference in the quality of your detoxing program.  Similarly, sitting in a sauna or a hot tub will have a detoxification effect on the body.  The key here is sweating.

7 – Read Food Labels – Reading nutrition facts isn’t as important as reading ingredients. A dietitian friend of mine says, “If you can’t pronounce the ingredient, don’t put it in your body.”  Those things you can’t pronounce are man-made chemicals, and they cause toxicity, dysfunction and ultimately disease in the body.  This is why you are detoxing – to remove all that is unnatural.

8 – Green Tea is King – Green tea variations and the like are derived from herbs and other antioxidant floral plants.  Green tea has long been highly respected as a powerful antioxidant, and has also been a suggested supplement for cancer patients. It’s cheap, but powerful.  A cup or more per day, steeped well, will take you on the road to detoxification greatness.

9 – Breathing Deeply – A regular ritual of deep breathing, perhaps with slow, relaxing music will naturally cause detoxification processes in the body to occur.  It also relaxes the mind, and since the mind rules the body, the body’s detoxing processes will occur more completely.

10 – Dry Brushing – Sometimes called a lymph brush, using one of these on your skin methodically (do your own research for correct application) before taking a shower will help the body to detoxify by draining the lymphatic system in the body. This process keeps your immune system healthy, exfoliates skin, regenerates healthy skin cells, and moves blood and nutrients throughout the body.

There are many more ways to detoxify your body. These are ten smart ways which are low cost and can produce tremendous results, helping you to feel better, look better and give your body the healthy maintenance that you deserve.
